It is located amidst a crowded market in the old city. The charminar of hyderabad is composed of two words char and minar meaning four and pillars respectively, hence the name symbolizes four pillars. The charminar was built by Muhammad Auli Qutb Shah in 1591 at the center of the newly built city of Hyderabad to celebrate the eradication of cholera. The place holds both historical and religious significance.  The 48.7m high tower has a mosque at the top.
